Joyland have been together for less than a year but have a sound that belongs to a band with a longer history than that. Having listened to both the tracks they’ve got featured on their Soundcloud page it’s easy to see why they were picked up by 140dB shortly after their first gig.
Drowner’s “Never Go Away” had me at the opening few bars; but as it progresses, Bouchard’s vocals hook you in before the driving power of the backing guitars hit you. Add to that my favourite tease where you think the track is over but you have plenty more good stuff to come and you find yourself with a track that I can’t get enough of!
Listen to this EP that The Rapture recently released featuring remixes by Aeroplane, Cosmic Kids, and Cut Copy.
With a range of influences from The Beatles to Radiohead, Emma Grace are the kind of pair us non-musical types look at in envy as they both play multiple instruments and sing. Oh, and create great indie songs like “Stuck In The Air”.
Now come on, when you open up an email and it tells you that the music has been created “as an electronic ‘thank you’ card to those who have dedicated countless hours to provide an opportunity for independent music to be discovered by those who seek it out”, i.e. us bloggers, then you’ve got to feature [...]
One thing that always amazes me about music is how new stuff gets written every day. With a handful of notes, artists still manage to create new songs and tunes and only occasionally do you hear something and think, “That sounds like…”. Some artists look beyond the usual music scale and find other ways to [...]
OK time for some interaction folks. I want to know songs that you fell in love with on the first listen. Here’s a few of mine, in no particular order: “Climbing To The Moon” – Eels, “Daughters Of The Soho Riots” – The National, ”Clubbed To Death” – Rob Dougan, “Invincible” – Muse, “Anyone Else But [...]
When you’re being touted as “one of the best young bands in America” you know that you’ve probably arrived. But you also know that you’d damn well better produce something that will make people believe it. Luckily for us Filligar are doing just that. Having self-released 5 albums and done amazingly well on the live [...]

Growing up in the 80′s I had a steady stream of electro synth pop bands more than happy to release tracks for me to attempt the robot dance to. Greats like OMD, Kraftwerk, Gary Numan and Ultravox, to name but a few, introduced a whole generation to electronic music played via keyboards and drum machines. [...]
You know those moments when you’ve been having a really bad day and nothing you seem to do makes it any better? Well I was having one of those moments tonight. Work was a total nightmare, the rain was pouring (again!), my bank card got stuck in the atm and when I got home the [...]
When I was at school, as part of my exams, I had to do “Romeo and Juliet” by Shakespeare. Sadly it wasn’t the best literary experience of my life. If the film had been around then I might have passed. Years later I discovered his Sonnets and found them much more interesting. I once had [...]
Following on from earlier releases, “Ablaze” and “No More Canyons“, the gorgeously haunting Quiet Lights are back with a new single, “Simple Mechanics”. Getting ready for the release of their EP ”The Big Fear” out on June 28th on Old Flame Records, this track sees them continuing the layered wall of sound that we at [...]
I don’t think the music business is quite as glamorous as most of us think really. Sure we’re used to the big houses and fancy recording studios that we see in the movies but for most bands the reality is a little more low key and closer to home. Sometimes it is home, as in [...]
