New Feature – Desert Island Discs – With Some Amazing Artists And Bloggers

So, here’s the new feature I’ve been pimping lately and harassing artists and bloggers about.  It’s looking to be a pretty sweet affair and I’ve had a great response from all of the artists and bloggers who’ve sent me submissions so far.  So first off, thanks to everyone for putting up with me nagging you about it, I really do appreciate you taking part in this.

If you’re unaware of the concept behind Desert Island Discs, this is the basic pitch I gave the artists and bloggers I got in touch with.

Desert Island Discs is a radio show from the U.K. that’s aired on the BBC since 1942.  Each week a different person will go on, someone from a strand of the arts, whether it’s music, film, literature, theatre, TV, athletics or otherwise, and they’ll pick eight pieces of music that they’d take to accompany them if they were stranded on a desert island for the rest of their life.

Twice a week (on Fridays and on Tuesdays) I’ll post a new DiD submission from either an artist or a blogger (currently I’m going on a first come first serve basis but have enough to last a while).  It’ll feature their eight music selections as well as some words from them as to why they chose that piece of music and also the song for you to listen to.  My hope is that you’ll get to see an insight into what influences and moves the artists you listen to and the bloggers you read, as well as discover some awesome new music.

So that’s (hopefully) how it’s going to go down.  If you’re an artist or blogger and want to take part just send your submission with the eight pieces of music (not the mp3s) and some words about each one to admin (@) listenbeforeyoubuy (dot) net.

Thanks for reading and check back in about an hour for the first submission from an up and coming artist.

OMG OMG PLEASE HELP!!!

Was that inappropriately alarming enough for you?  How many of you clicked on it just because of the title?

Well, don’t be alarmed, this is just a quick post to say that I’m looking for journalists and seasoned writers who might be interested in writing for ListenBeforeYouBuy to get in touch.  By journalists and seasoned writers I mean anyone who’s willing and can type.  Can you type? Are you willing?  The job’s yours.

In all seriousness though things are starting to pick up for the site, a lot faster than I had anticipated, and so now I’m looking for some people to help out with it either by writing reviews, posting new music, finding artists….pretty much everything I’ve been doing.  It’s a non-paying job.  Actually, it’s not even a job, it’s something I enjoy doing, so if you’d like to spread your love of music with the world (or the 14 people who read the site) just for the joy of doing so, then get in touch with me.

Email me at admin@listenbeforeyoubuy.net and let me know three things about yourself.

  1. Where you’re from/live
  2. Your taste in music (favourite genres/albums/artists) or link to your Last.fm page.
  3. How you’d like to contribute.

Cheers!

Oh, and ignore all of these little circles below, I’ve been trying to get rid of them for weeks now but the little bastards are belligerent.

Arcade Fire Announce New Album “The Suburbs”, Release Date, & Pre-Order

I just happened to check through Arcade Fire’s various labels (as well as various online retailers, and I haven’t seen it anywhere else yet, although it is only 3:30am) and saw that Merge now have a pre-order up for the new Arcade Fire album titled “The Suburbs”.

It’s set for release on August 2nd in Europe and August 3rd in North America, and the best part is that it’s a double LP, so that’s not one, not two, but a shitload of songs!  Plus if you pre-order it ($14.98 for the CD, $25.98 for the LP) you get a poster and a download link to get the two new songs in MP3 320!  Damn good deal, mine is ordered.

Head on over to Merge and pre-order it now and listen to radio rips of the soon-to-be-released 12″ single “The Suburbs” and “Month Of May” below.

UPDATE: They’ve now updated their site with the album cover and back, another postcard, lyrics for “The Suburbs” and multiple pre-order links.

New Song By Arcade Fire – Suburbs/Month Of May

It’s not out quite yet but it apparently will be.

Over the last few weeks people have been glued to the Arcade Fire website, myself included.  First they changed the layout of it, then they started slowly adding new tour dates and rumours were rife that they would add some club dates in North America and Europe.  As of yet they haven’t, only announcing festival dates….ok and a couple of club dates in Europe, but not a whole tour.

Anyway, then they changed the banner at the top of their site to say “Arcade Fire Presents The Suburbs” and nobody knew what it was, but apparently it was a mistake because they removed it from the page.  However they didn’t remove it from source code so the only mistake was having it visible.  Well now it’s gone from the source code but one eagle-eyed eagle found a link for what looks to be a brand new single called “Suburbs/Month Of May” that’s available for pre-order on Amazon.

There’s no artwork as of yet and the single is on imported vinyl, which means it’s slightly more expensive than a regular 7″, but the best part is that it’s set for a June 1st release date.  That’s only 16 days, 12 hours, 24 minutes and 34 seconds away.  You can bet your mother-flippin’ bottom dollar that as soon as something comes out it’ll be here, so keep checking back for details.

UPDATE: They’ve since updated their site with a postcard addressed to “The Internet” that says:

“Howdy Yall, just finishing up pressing our 12″. Should be in stores in the next couple weeks, God willing. Good luck with finals, see you this Summer! AF”.

By 12″ I’m assuming they mean a 12″ single.  If they managed to write, record, and press an entire album without anyone knowing I’d be highly fucking surprised and impressed.  If it’s being released in a couple of weeks, chances are it’ll show up online somewhere before then, but if Sleigh Bells taught us anything about leaks, it’s that they don’t always happen.

Here they are, give ‘em a listen.
