Retreating from the mass populous into the woods, Dirty Projectors accumulated a sum of 40 songs, choosing a dozen that touch on love, anxiety, passion, and the increasingly changing world around us. Analyzing the state of the economy in “Gun Has No Trigger“, the tragic dystopian love story of ”Just From Chevron”, and the heartbreaking beauty of the lullaby title track, Swing Lo Magellen has kept fans on their “p”s and “q”s.
With Dave Longstreth at its helm, they’re curated their most cohesive album to date. While they have managed to sustain their patented off-kilter rhythms and female vocal harmonies, sans Angel Deradoorian, it’s the playfulness that is found in songs “Dance For You“ and “Unto Caesar” that bring the unconventional collective into a more grounded position in pop music.
