Fuelled by a lust for sex, synths, and Phil Collins (in that order), Night Panther are here to make you feel sexual. The self-described “sex pop band” was founded by best friends (or if you’re Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinksi, “best fiends”) Farzad Houshiarnejad and Mike Cammarata in order to fuel their youthful longings. As Night Panther, they set out to make your summer nights long and your parties uncut. Straight oughta Doylestown, Pennsylvania (and buddies with another LBYB favorite: White Birds), these boys are not here to mess around, y’all. They have a boxer on a leash and zero fears about rocking the shirtless-under-a-luscious-fur-coat look. Get ready to sonically wet yourselves, folks.
Please be warned: I am a scant 109 words into this opus, and already this is the raunchiest Introducing article I’ve ever written thus far. Not only are their pop hooks like sweet, ripe cherries waiting to be popped, but they inspire fine, fine prose. It’s a win-win situation.
Their first single, “Snudge”, is a dreamy, cosmic power pop anthem in the vein of Of Montreal and dashed with a nice, robust helping of “Midnight Vultures”-era Beck. Despite their high class raunch adoration, it is a sincere – dare I say “winsome” – ode to love gone complicated, and ideal to put on your Summer 2012 Essentials playlist.
In fact, this track is so essential that Night Panther are offering it up to download for damn free. Run and tell that, homeboy. Keep the hope alive, however, because word on the street is that they have a full-length LP in the works. We here at Listen Before You Buy pledge to keep you abreast of any developments.
