[Discover/Listen] – The Dirty Cuts – [Grime/New-Wave/Pop-Punk]
Wow.
All it took was 30 seconds of “Lips” by The Dirty Cuts for me to do a double take and wonder if it was a mistake that I had this, if someone was taking the piss and had sent me a song by an established act that’s been around for years.
Not the case. The Dirty Cuts are a four-piece from Glasgow, Scotland who “formed to make music for boys and girls to dance and make out to”. And dance and make out to it you will, just like you do to The Virgins, The Strokes, and Franz Ferdinand, except this time you’ll have 10 times the fun and 4 times the saliva. Their sound is energetic and spiked with off-your-feet dance beats reminiscent of Blondie.
They’ve just released their debut single “2 Page Spread” and plan to release their debut album by the end of 2010/start of 2011. Their next single “Yummy Mummy” will be released on July 26th via 17 Seconds Records.
Until then check out three songs; “2 Page Spread”, “Lips”, and “Cult Mother”, the latter of which is a demo that’s not up on their MySpace page. There’s a video someone recorded of them playing live at the end of March, so have a deek at that too.
