When I say that I’ve been listening to this all week it’s no word of a lie.
Fareed sent me their stuff last week just as I was going to bed and so before getting there I stopped and gave it a listen, and it turned out to be another of those bands that grab you the instant you hear them. Upon first listen, I knew that I liked it, I just wasn’t sure exactly what IT was. It’s all sorts of bits and bobs, tweaks and twirls, highs and lows, all wrapped around (upon first listen) and insane mixture of instruments and sounds that somehow pull it off, but when if you think about it they probably shouldn’t work.
Tagged on their Bandcamp page as “baritone ukulele, big beat, glitch, glockenspiel, hi-fi, icelandic folk music, lo-fi, percussion, pitch-shifting, pop, reverb, surf”, I’d probably classify it as that too. Even though their album/EP is only five songs, it’ll take you through each of those, and if you can imagine them as sounding like Tennis, How To Dress Well, Passion Pit, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah all jamming together, then you might be close. I’ll stop trying to describe them and just let you hear them. Two songs below, three more on their Bandcamp page. Do. It.
They’re playing CMJ in October and then start a residency at Piano’s in November, so if you’re in the NYC area over the next couple of months, their live set would be fricken awesome based on their recorded tunes. If you go check out Musigh, the band sent them an exclusive new track that you can hear and download.
