Things I knew about Belgium: it’s the home of Hercules Poirot, The Smurfs, and Tintin. New things I know about Belgium: it gave us the saxophone (I googled that) and Hermanos Inglesos. Now apparently Belgium has a great tradition in electronic music, clubbing and bringing forth influential DJs, from the R&S label and the groundbreaking club Boccaccio, to Eskimo Recordings and Culture Club. Who knew eh?
Hermanos Inglesos are real life brothers, Cedric and Didier Engels (Engels being the Dutch word for English, hence Hermanos Inglesos = English brothers, see what they did there?). Punning names aside, these guys are club residents and award winning DJs known for playing eclectic sets including their own edits, remixes and tracks. They have released a few EPs and remixes and have even made the heady heights of Radio 1 and their first single “Wanderland” had a video that was shown at film festivals all over the world and which won several awards. Now they’re stretching out and have this year launched a full album, “The Wander Of You”.
“Take Me Down” is their second single from the album and lifts the lyrics from a well known Guns ‘n’ Roses song. The Glimmers’ remix strips the track back to a sparse techno beat. Lyrical repeats, high hats and a bass that’s just the right side of annoying create something that would be perfect for a pounding club sound system, played to a heaving dance floor. If you can’t get to a club, just plug in your headphones and turn up the volume, it’s pretty intense.
