[Introducing] – No Monster Club

I’ve always wondered why The Wedding Present’s high speed jangle-madness hasn’t been copied more often. It’s such a simple sound, yet one that manages to captivate, uplift and inspire all at the same time. That mad rush of guitars and drums playing simple three or four chord songs way too fast and the sound of someone striving to keep up over the top can be amazingly addictive.

I’m not suggesting Ireland’s No Monster Club are simply rip-off artists, far from it. They manages to combine the same elements into their music, but the strength of their songwriting means that after thirty seconds of listening, all thoughts of comparisons go out the window, and you focus solely on NMC.

The group started off as the musical project of songwriter, guitarist and singer Bobby before fleshing out the group with a drummer and a bassist, who bring a muscular and tight rhythm section to place underneath the trashy guitar playing on top. The songs on their most recent release, the “Young Guts Champion” EP, manage to present a singular vision of the band and also all over the place.

You can hear (and download) a track off their EP below, or you can stream the whole album over at their Bandcamp.
