[Introducing] – The Black Tambourines

The Black Tambourines are a band that I stumbled upon after being sent music by someone else, somewhat like the way that We Were Promised Jetpacks were discovered.

As I was perusing their MySpace page I noticed they had a Soundcloud player embedded and so naturally I gravitated towards that since MySpace is a pile of wank and their built-in player sucks.  The music that spilled out made me instantly take notice and stop looking further down their page in favour of drinking in their liquid-turned-solid concoction of Lo-Fi Garage meets Surf-Rock wave.

Although there’s no album out yet, the four-piece from Cornwall in England do have an album’s worth of music spread out over a couple of EPs and a split 7″ single with New Years Evil.  Their latest EP “Hombre” is more of an immediate and harassing affair than their first self-titled EP, even though sonically they’re not exactly worlds apart; guitars firmly planted in the roots of homemade rock, vocals soaked in reverb and sung through a sand-covered microphone, and drums and bass played from atop an erupting volcano inside a tiny, sweaty room.

Their debut EP is available for free from their Soundcloud page (although you should know that all of the those songs are in WAV format so the filesize is large, but below I converted them all into MP3 for you) and their latest one isn’t, which implies that it might just be getting an official physical release, but for now you can hear them both below.  Not bad, eh?
