[Introducing] – Trophy Wife

The only consolation from being a trophy wife is that you’re hot.

Chances are you’re not marrying that old dude for anything other than his cash, but in the event that this band are pug ugly, one thing you can take away from them is that their music is downright fantastic.  The musical equivalent of the opposite of pug ugly, beautiful and mesmerising if you will, a climate of well-placed guitar hooks, sullen vocals, and an overall air of something huge just over the horizon.

Hailing from Oxford, England, the band are a trio who might garner initial comparisons to the likes of Foals (who they’re about to support come November and who are also from Oxford) and even in some cases The Stone Roses.  They’ve got that groove that The Stone Roses had that would lash back and forth between chilled, and 80s Dance-Blues, but Jody Prewett’s vocals are far more powerful (on both ends of the scale) than Ian Brown’s.

Both songs below are part of their debut single “Microlite” that’ll be available via Moshi Moshi on November 8th on 7″ vinyl, and as well as touring with Foals and Toro Y Moi, they’re recording and releasing an EP due out next year.  These guys are gonna be big, so if you’re into buying physical releases and then selling them years down the line for muchos deniro when the band get huge, then jump on that 7″ pre-order.
