With a voice that hits you squarely in the chops (all three of them) and borne from the future love child of Orlando Weeks from The Maccabees and Tom Smith from Editors, Wooden Pigs (a four-piece from Bournemouth, England) do more than just sound similar to the aforementioned bands.
They’ve taken the best of both albums by The Maccabees, mixed them with the atmosphere of Editors’ first album and the raucous and unbridled youth of The Kings Of Leon’s debut album, thrown it all in a blender and drank the resulting jaggedly, skin-stripping concoction that at points shreds lead singer Geoffry’s throat and the accompanying hook-laden guitar, guttural bass, and drums.
Their six publicly available songs are the basis of a sure-fire hit of an album, that, at the moment there’s no word on, but I strongly urge you to visit their Facebook/MySpace page and listen to their other songs, the first four of which comprise a new EP the band are hoping to release soon called “The Blossom”. The dudes are unsigned at the moment, so all of you label folks who I know are reading, you better get out your cheque books and start making some offers before someone else does. Check out the title track of the EP below and let me know what you think.
