[Listen] – Admiral Fallow – “Squealing Pigs”

Starting off with a simple folk-y guitar melody, the single from Scotland’s Admiral Fallow then breaks into a shuffling drumbeat, with rousing male-female vocals, jazz flourishes from clarinet and double bass, and a chorus that inspires you to sing along.

I’m a fan of musicians with Scottish accents (see also: Biffy Clyro, Malcolm Middleton, Frightened Rabbit) and the Louis Abbot and Sarah Hayes’ vocals here have a rough-and-ready charm that meshes perfectly with the ramshackle folk-rock directions the song takes.

Admiral Fallow already have some well-placed fans – their debut album, “Boots Met My Face”, was produced by Paul Savage of Franz Ferdinand. More tracks are available to listen to at the band’s MySpace page, including this video of the band performing a quite beautiful version of their song “Old Balloons”.
