On Sept 13 ANR (A New Republic) will be re-releasing the highly enjoyable “Stay Kids” album from earlier this year.
Sometimes re-releases are nothing more than irritating but since the boys from Miami are strapping on four additional tracks, and its message is worth repeating, the new pressing seems worth the effort.
“New Armor” is one of the new tracks to be included and should do well to create some hype before the 13th. I dig the optimistic lyrics of this song which can rarely be found from any sort of artistic outlet.
Usually mainstream commercial machines are the ones to create (or in most cases pay someone else to create) songs as optimistic about change as this one, of course those lyrics are completely vague and impersonal which seem to only inspire people void of any motivation. These are the same people who find fulfillment in staring at a screen for hours watching Jersey Shore marathons, waiting in long lines at Hollister to get a new extra-medium polo, or reading books written by Chelsea Handler. Of course the message behind those songs is usually something along the lines of “don’t judge me it’s like totally acceptable if I get completely wasted and sleep with random dudes and think only about myself, whhhooooooo for poor life choices” or something like that.
“Stay Kids” sits on the other end of that optimistic spectrum, it’s an album full of socially aware tracks about the status of the world and life and growing older in them that found much of its inspiration from the earthquake in Haiti (Jan 12 ,2010) and the summer of oil love where BP spread their sweet environmentally friendly arms around the gulf shore and gave it a huge bear hug for nearly four months. I’d like to see DJ Pauly D spin a track of cuts by Key$ha and Rihanna about those topics.
My roommates did tell me that the Situation’s hair gel is environmentally friendly and was “never tested on animals,” she was incredibly defensive when she said it… I’m still not sure what her point was.
