Next week, from October 18th-22nd the annual CMJ music festival is taking place in New York City, and it’s widely regarded as one of the best and most comprehensive independent music festival around. Hundreds of artists playing at a multitude of venues all across the city, many shows free, many shows all ages, make for an excellent week of music consumption.
There’s also a technology presence at the festival, focusing on music and the ways that technology is shaping and changing the ways we discover, interact with, and share music we find online or via our mobile phones. On the 19th and 20th there’s going to be a Smart Lounge event that showcases some of the newest and most innovative companies in music technology today such as Ex.fm, Spotify, Turntable, 8Tracks and more.
As you may have noticed we at Listen Before You Buy have recently started using Ex.fm‘s on-site audio player to play all of the audio on the site, from self-hosted MP3s to Soundcloud streams to bandcamp embeds and more. Since Ex.fm are one of the companies at the CMJ Smart Lounge they’re going to be showcasing their next-generation website and have asked us (widdle old LBYB) along with four other sites and blogs to curate an exclusive playlist of our favourite artists appearing at CMJ this year. Who are we to refuse some extra exposure for our site these great new bands?
