Now before you start giving me shit for posting Britney Spears, I DON’T CARE!
Actually I do, but I’m not posting Britney I’m posting The Morning Benders. Just like when ceo did a cover of “Halo” by Beyonce or Frightened Rabbit did “Hit Me Baby One More Time”, remixes are in the same vein. I mentioned on Twitter on Saturday afternoon to Jheri from GetOffTheCoast that on Frank Ocean’s new mixtape he’s made Coldplay listenable again, and The Morning Benders have made Britney listenable with this remix.
Don’t get me wrong, Britney’s had some giant tunes in the last 13 years or so, but most of it’s just drivel, although it’s probably a damn sight better than Maroon 5. Over the last couple of months lead singer Chris Chu and I have become the best of friends, going out to parties together, dog-watching each other’s dogs, slappin’ da bass, racing each other to see who can slide across kitchen floors in socks the quickest…..you know, the usual. Plus, it seems like most of the stuff he’s been touching lately (music-wise) has been great; his remix of Ra Ra Riot’s “Too Dramatic”, the jams on their “Japan Echo” EP, and now this remix.
I think it’s a sign of the new direction they’re taking their next album. Electronic, chopped and spliced, a little dubby, a little chilled, a lottle awesome. We shall see.
