[Listen] [Download] – Chunky Selection Of Free Music

Sorry for the premature, half-assed update late last night.  As I was working on this post my internet went down and when it came back up 10 minutes later it had somehow managed to publish the article, BUT, here it is in its final glory (hark!).

Over the last few days I’ve been collecting music that I’ve been finding on the interwebbings and so today I’m not only going to let you hear it all for free, but you can download it all for free too. It may not all be to everyone’s taste but I’m sure there’s something here for most people.

All of the songs below were released for free (either by the artists themselves or by their record labels) to the general public.

James Yuill (Folk/Electronic/Indie) will release his third album “Movement In A Storm” on June 21st on Moshi Moshi and as a “bit of a preview” he’s released “Give You Away” as a free download.

Fanfarlo (Folk/Indie/Pop) released their debut album “Reservoir” back in September 2009, but since then they’ve been touring extensively between their homeland (U.K.) and the U.S..  Whilst touring the U.S. they played several radio stations and have now decided to give away a three song EP of those radio sessions.  Below are “The Walls Are Coming Down”, “I’m a Pilot”, and “Finishline”.  You can get your copy by signing up to their mailing list.

Bright Eyes & Neva Dinova (Indie/Folk) released an EP  together (“One Jug Of Wine, Two Vessels” back in 2004 and in an interview in 2007, Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes’  kingpin) described it as his best work.  Its popularity was such that they are now re-issuing it on March 23rd but in the meantime NME has two songs from the EP (“Poison”  from the original, and “Happy Accident” a new song featured on the re-issue) that you can download and enjoy yourself for the next couple of weeks.

This excellent mashup of Biggie, Tupac and ridiculously talented 19-year-old three-piece from London The XX is nothing new, having seen the light of day back in August 2009 via Quix and Elliot Blend, but you should definitely give it a listen.  It mixes Biggie and Tupac’s “Runnin” with The XX’s “Intro”, it fucking rocks.  Grab it from Sheena Beaston.

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti (Indie/Rock/Electronic) has been around for a good seven years or so, first starting as a solo project of Ariel Pink but now comprising a full band line-up, they’ve released a plethora of albums and EPs, and now as they ready their new album to be released on 4AD (date not yet announced)  you can download “Round And Round” from the new album via 4AD.
