[Listen] – Fair Fjola – “Summer Song”

Very rarely does someone give me an album to check out that is anything more than a way to set me up for an awkward conversation where I have to gingerly find a way to say that our appreciation for music is not aligned. This was not the case when one of my best friends handed me the Fair FjolaNo One Gets Any” album.

From the opening track I was in awe of not only how good this band is but how I have not heard anything about them until now. Each song impressed me with it’s Americana swagger mixed with indie energy, never once fully settling into any  single genre.

Summer Song” is the eighth track on the album and is probably the best way to get you excited to familiarize yourself with this unsigned band out of nowheresville, Warsaw, Indiana.

Initially it feels to be an incredibly written song that rides on the back bone of the lyric base but then a minute in Fair Fjola kick the door open and take the song in an unexpected swing-your-mug direction. I’ve been waiting all year for a song like this to touch my ear and had all but given up hope.

Thank god good friends occassionally share good music.
