[Listen] – New Album By Bon Iver – “Bon Iver, Bon Iver”

I’m not going to review this new Bon Iver album, mainly because I’m pretty shite at reviewing albums unless it’s negative because those are really easy to do, but also because this isn’t even out yet and that, to me, isn’t enough time to full take in an album and review it fairly.

Some people can do that in a day, some people it takes a month or more, and personally it completely depends on the album. Sometimes I’ll hear an album and fall in love instantly, sometimes it’ll be a slow burner and take a couple of months for me to come around, and some I dismiss as terrible and later revisit and begin enjoying it, but that doesn’t happen too often.

Bon Iver’s new album which is actually and correctly called “Bon Iver, Bon Iver”, is something I was anticipating greatly, because four years of no new personal music is a long time to go for an artist whose debut album has made its way into my top ten albums of all time, and that’s why it’s unfair for me to praise or dismiss this album so early in the game. That being said, at first I wasn’t completely sold on it and then last night I gave it three more spins and things started to click, even the questionable track towards the end “Beth/Rest”, but if you’re a fan of the debut album “For Emma, Forever Ago” then spend some quality time with this and then come back and let me know what you think.

For now though you can hear the entire album below before it comes out on June 21st via 4AD and Jagjaguwar respectively, and if you’re of the vinyl buying persuasion, for a mere $40 you can get the vinyl of “For Emma”, the new one “Bon Iver, Bon Iver, the “Blood Bank” EP and a 12″ single of “Calgary”, the first single from the new album, a poster and an instant download of the LP.  Now tell me that’s not a good fucking deal!
