[Listen] – New Album By Iron & Wine – “Kiss Each Other Clean”

With the amount of music that Sam Beam has recorded and released as Iron & Wine you’d think they were on album number eight by now, but no, it’s only number four.  ONLY NUMBER FOUR!

Last night I posted about how I wasn’t too keen on the debut album by Yuck but after listening to it on repeat over the course of today I’ve changed my mind from “Meh” to “Ooo”.  Maybe it’ll happen with “Kiss Each Other Clean” because right now after a couple of spins I’m one step down from “Meh”, which I guess is “Get it away from me!”. My first impressions are that they’re trying to be the folk version of Sufjan Stevens’ latest album; experimenting and failing, trying something “new” and making something that’s not very accessible.

There are a couple of good songs on it where you can lose yourself in the atmosphere and storytelling only to be brought back out of your auditory coma by what sounds like a theramin farting and sneezing at the same time, but I won’t be too critical until I listen to it a few more times (insert wink here).

Thanks to Conan O’Brien and his love for music, his TeamCoco site has teamed up with Sam’s beard to give you a full stream of the album and this widget is easily one of the best in recent memory, it’s really well done.
