[Listen] [New Artist] – Colourmusic – [Indie/Psychedelic/Alternative]

Spelling “colour” the proper way (wink wink), Colourmusic hail from Oklahoma with the exception of one member who hails from Yorkshire in the U.K..  Judging by their name you’d think they make colourful music, and judging by people’s knack for judging things based on a name, you’d be right.  They’ve already released an album with an absurd title (“f, monday, orange, february, venus, lunatic, 1 or 13″) back in 2008 to not a lot of fanfare, but this time, with their upcoming second album, they’re likely to get a decent amount of press about it.

They made the rounds at SXSW last week and from what I read they put on a damn good show.  It’s hard to imagine them putting on a shite show considering the music they make.  The only reason I labeled them as “new” is because they don’t have much attention surrounding them, something that someone needs to do something about.

They compose their music based on Isaac Newton’s theory of colour which results in a huge wall of sound that has layer upon layer and texture upon layer.  Below you can hear a few of their songs, all from their debut album, and a couple of videos.  For your auditory pleasure I have “Yes!“, “Circles“, and “Put In A Little Gas“, and video-wise there’s “Winter Song” and “Someday Speaks Loudly”.

Their second album will be released on Memphis Industries some time this year.  Buy “f, monday, orange, february, venus, lunatic, 1 or 13″ from Amazon.
