[Listen] – New EP By Rubix – “That Rhythm”

You don’t usually see a whole lot House music posted ont his site and if it is, it’s generally either done by Leisha or it’s a remix/mashup I’ve posted as a QuickPick.

This time though I’m doing a little writeup about an EP that was sent to me last week by Rubix.  He’d uploaded it to his Soundcloud page, three songs long but only excerpts.  Usually if someone sends me an excerpt I’ll ignore it because who wants to hear half/clips of a song?  Homie don’t want no part of that, but this time I gave it a listen and was immediately struck by the quality of it.  I’m not the biggest fan of House music, but I know a killer fucking beat and sample when I hear one and the song “That Rhythm” got me.

With a bass line that sounds like it was pulled straight from the fingers of Charles Mingus, a 1930s swing hook, and sampled by a Louis Armstrong-sounding guy waxing his gravely voice over the top, it’s a tight mix of Swing meets House, one which isn’t heard enough of to be honest and I’m off to go do some digging for more.

Rubix, a DJ/Producer from Amsterdam has released the EP on Beatport and is releasing it on No Brainer Records soon, as well as dropping a new video too, and he was kind enough to send me the whole EP, full songs and all for you to listen to.  Awww….bless, wasn’t that nice?
