Saturday is now (at the time of writing) six minutes old, but on Friday afternoon we got wind of a new single release by Beirut, the New Mexican (a dude from New Mexico, not a newly-anointed Mexican) otherwise known as Zach Condon.
In 2009 Zach graced us/disgraced us with his double EP “March Of The Zapotec”/”Holland”, and if you heard that you’ll remember the vastly different sides to each EP, the former being Condon’s more tried-and-tested Balkan-esque, eastern European orchestral epic that was “Gulag Orkestar”, but the former “Holland” was his foray into experimental “what the fuck is this?” meets “what the fuck is that?” produced with “what the fuck does this do?”.
Widely panned, it’s not THAAATTTT bad, but it’s fairly piss poor compared to the rest of his output. Thankfully by the sounds of these two new songs he’s keeping his feet in his own pigeon hole. It’s being released as a 7″ single in the U.K. via his own “Pompeii” record label and in the U.S. via Revolver USA, which is who we have to thank for the stream of the a-side “East Harlem”. The b-side, “Goshen” has been played live in the past, as has “East Harlem” and as there’s no legit stream of that yet you’ll have to make do with a live video of it.
Out on Monday you can get it on blue vinyl or white vinyl (1,000 copies each), or from Midheaven they have a very limited number of red vinyls available but they won’t last long, so be snappy.
