If you’re in the U.S. there’s a very good possibility that you haven’t heard of Kasabian, or you may have heard the name but not the music.
If either of those are the case then allow me to change that for you. From Leicester, England, the band have released three albums to date, the one that garnered them the most critical acclaim and widespread success being their debut self-titled album from 2004. It was a bit of a breath of fresh air, actually. An album that was huge in its sound, thumping and pounding along against the roar of the bass and rumble of the kick drum, the electronic hooks and almost WU LYF-esque vocals (but more comprehensible), it’s still an album I spin on a regular basis.
Their last album “West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum” was received generally lukewarm , and personally I’m not even sure how many times I listened to it, maybe twice? That was in 2009 though and whilst their sound hasn’t progressed like Bloc Party’s for example, they are taking on a more electronic, almost cautious approach with their new song “Switchblade Smiles”. It’s also a little bit difficult to follow, but nevertheless I like it.
The first song from their upcoming fourth album “Velociraptor!” (out sometime in September) dropped on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio One show yesterday and they posted it to their Soundcloud page not long after, which is what’s beloooooow.
