Band Of Horses guitarist Tyler Ramsey releases what could very well be his best song yet with “The Nightbird”. The Lyrics are haunting with the heaviness of life and coming to grips with those things that weigh us down coupled with the determination of releasing them.
Sure as a metaphor anyone could listen to “The Nightbird” and place their own meanings, their own motivations, into the song and make it out about anything, that’s the Achilles heal of using a metaphor. I’ve never been a supporter for songs that are vague, preferring highly personal and descriptive lyrics, yet I buy into the emotion Ramsey has drawn from in making this song.
Whether it’s the texture of his voice or the tone of his guitar I’m not sure but he’s always made me a believer that whatever he’s had to say is from the heart and hard for him to express. He’s one of the few guys that when listening I feel as if I’m looking through a window into their room and eaves dropping as they pray about their deepest hurts and worries.
It’s almost blasphemous but Tyler may be better on his own. I’ve been thinking that for a while but never had the nerve to actually let it be known until now. His new album “The Valley Wind” comes out on Tuesday.
