Maybe it’s just the title of the song that started the gears up in my mind but Yukon Blonde‘s “Stairway” feels like our generations version of Led Zeppelin when they made the shift from acoustic troubadours to electric gods.
Yukon blonde has held my attention for some time now and this morning when I pressed play I was not prepared for what came at me. It’s like something in the band has caught fire and this is their first chance to transfer all the burning intensity into a focused light onto the world around them.
Most often when a band shifts their sound I find myself offended…why change a good thing? So if you had told me that they were about to shake things up a bit it would not have been received from my end with any sort of optimism. Yet half-way through my second listen I’m pausing the song and replaying “Fire,” my former favorite of theirs, and with an audible “Holy Shit!” I’m taken aback by how organic this transformation feels. Yukon Blonde are going to be giants and I never saw it coming.
If you haven’t gotten familiar with these Canadians I’d say it’s now or never, if you wait any longer you are liable to be standing in the back of the lawn as they are co-headlining Bonnarroo asking the fourteen year old in the Kings Of Leon shirt “Who is this?” only to get that arrogantly condescending look of ” if you don’t already know, you’re too old, and you’re too late.”
