Listen to Patti Smith‘s first single, “April Fool”, off her upcoming album, “Banga”.
“April Fool” is our first taste of the legendary rocker’s first album in eight years, “Banga”, due for release June 5th via Columbia Records.
The new track, equip with a pretty guitar line and the vocalist’s signature gritty vocals, shows a different, less-gloomy side of one of punk’s greatest female vocalists, especially in comparison to her biggest hit (and one of my all-time favorite songs), the dark, epic “Because The Night”. In my opinion, although nothing could reach the epic-ness of her great hit, “April Fool” shows a more mature side of the singers and still maintains that bad-ass quality that makes her music so appealing. Not only does it look like the “Godmother of Punk” hasn’t lost her touch at sixty-five years-old, but she seems to only be improving.
Patti Smith has to be one of my all-time favorite vocalists, and if “April Fool” is any indication of how her new album will turn out, I’ll be sure to buy it right away. Listen to it below (skip to the 10:50 mark).
