[Listen] – Say Anything – “Admit It Again”

Say Anything Anarchy, My DearSay Anything take a personal shot at “scene kids” and get me all sorts of stoked to hear them return to angsty all out emotional lyrics in  “Admit It Again.”

Max Bemis comes right out of the gate saying “Admit it you lecherous douche, you were listening to my band in 2004 though you claim you were reared on The Stooges. Your entire facade is a line that you feed,” which is the exact sentiment going through my mind when I get that pretentious air of authority from people whenever referencing a band like Say Anything. Whether hipsters want to admit it or not a few short years ago they were just as enveloped by this music as I was… only I’m not ashamed of my roots.

I even respect the fact that they take a stab at pitchfork, “I don’t want to hear about how the latest Rihanna single is a post-modern masterpiece stop punishing me. Fueled by a potent mixture of cocaine and latent insecurity defining your own self-worth by the opinion of a stupid website with Satin as its figure-head,” if I had been thrown under the bus the way these guys have I’d probably feel the same way.

Maybe I’m just another fan holding onto the past, all of us have biased opinions based on some connection with those awkward years of adolescence, I get that and completely understand if some of you don’t agree with me on this one. After all, if anyone feels like they are taking shots while listening to this track it should be me… in the eyes of  Say Anything I’m part of the precise problem that fuels the machine.

Although, for how aligned I find myself  with the stance taken in this song I would still love to have a conversation with Bemis about why I detest groups of frat dudes in polo’s, their Dave Matthew’s posters, and all of the shitty bands they listen to.

At the least, “Admit It Again” should be strong enough to spark up a few relevant conversations.

Say Anything recently severed their ties with RCA and will be releasing the upcoming Anarchy, My Dear through Equal Vision Records on March 13th.
