Listen to Tennis‘ cover of Broadcast‘s song “Tears In The Typing Pool” below.
For the unaware, Broadcast are an experimental electronic band from Birmingham in the U.K., formed in the mid 90s and have been releasing albums since the early 2000′s, however in February of this years lead singer Trish Keenan tragically passed away from pneumonia, leaving founding member James Cargill as the only remaning member of the band.
That’s the backstory, but today Tennis dropped a cover of their song “Tears In The Typing Pool” from their 2005 album “Tender Buttons”. Whilst Broadcast are known for fusing a hazy 60s sound into some of their songs, the original “Tears In The Typing Pool” sounds like it was made for Tennis. Downtempo, acoustic, and carefree, it’s the sound that Tennis are known for, and it’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect from their cover of it.
Personally I would’ve liked to have heard their take on the searing “I Found The F”, but maybe next time, eh? Tennis are due to release their second album “Young And Old” in early 2012.
