“Hold Back” by The Revival Hour may be the best mix of modern electronic with classic Soul I’ve ever heard.
The Revival Hour are the new project from the amazing DH Stith and JM Lapham (The Earlies/The Late Chord) which draws out the ideal trademarks of both artists while still pushing them in a creative direction neither has ventured to attempt before now.
“Hold Back” comes across exactly how I imagine a Ray Charles single would sound if he had been born sixty years later. By the time the song is over it is obvious The Revival Hour had complete focus heading into the recording process and at the same time found a way of unleashing some pent up creativity and artistic expression they had yet to bring to the surface.
The Revival Hour have only released two songs thus far; The other single “Run Away” is very Yeahsayer-ish and just as solid.
