One of the most seriously underappreciated new bands doing the rounds today are Various Cruelties, a previously gushed-over four-piece from London.
How often can you say that a soulful Indie-Rock band made you groove, get down, and rock out all within the span of a four minute song? Ok, there are a few, but Various Cruelties are the real deal; they get down, they groove, and they rock out themselves, their songs are melodious 50s-inspired Soul-jams, some with a Ska-tinged horns and big-beat drums.
That was just their last single, but this time around the two new songs are more like The Coral covering early Amy Winehouse (pre-crackwhore phase), soulful Surf-Rock with a huge heartbeat. They’ll be released on May 23rd via Almanac Recordings, digitally, as a 500 limited 7″ and a 250 limited CD.
