Now, let me preface this with an admission that I haven’t listened to a single song by The Wake, which I’m guessing will be tantamount to sacrilege, being that I’m Scottish and all, and The Wake are all Scottish and shit too.
But, just because I’m from Scotland doesn’t mean I should be expected to know everything my homeland exports, but I will say that canned Haggis is pretty good but nothing compared to the real deal. Anyway, for Record Store Day today, Captured Tracks, the label that’s released recent gems by Craft Spells, Dum Dum Girls, and both Wild Nothing and Beach Fossils‘ debut albums and various single and EPs, is releasing and reissuing a few of The Wake’s early 7″ singles.
One of the new ones is a 7″ single with Wild Nothing and Beach Fossils covering two apparent classics by The Wake, the former has Jack Tatum lending his signature hazy and reverb-over-easy sound on “Gruesome Castles” whilst Beach Fossils lean on “Plastic Flowers”, giving it that Garage-Surf signal found on their full length and most recent EP “What A Pleasure”. You can hear both of them below and grab the 7″ today at participating stores.
