You’ve no doubt heard of José González, but if you haven’t……well you’re about to (in a somewhat round-about way)
As a solo artist he’s been blazing folksy trails through the music scene for years now, releasing two albums and a bunch of singles. On the side though he’s been working with his buddies Junip, a band of fellow Swedes making Indie-Frolk (that’s Rock-Folk). Apparently they’ve been doing this for about a decade now but have only released two EPs, five years apart. The first was “Black Refuge” back in 2005 that included a cover of “The Ghost Of Tom Joad” and the second is “Rope And Summit”, as of yet unreleased but they did just give it away for free on their site. It’s set for release on Tuesday but you can listen to it below and then grab it f’reals on Tuesday.
It’s not a huge departure from José’s solo stuff so if you like what you hear below you’ll definitely enjoy his solo albums, start with “Veneer” and then go for “In Our Nature”. You’ll be glad you did.
“Rope And Summit” is due out on May 25th on Mute in the U.S., City Slang in Europe, Shock in Australia, and Ultra-Vybe in Japan. Listen to the EP below and head over to their site to download it for yourself. They’re also on tour in the U.S for the next month or so and then hitting up some festivals in Europe.
