Late last night (think 3am EST) I was finishing up on some posts for the site when Dodge over at MyOldKentuckyBlog made a tweet saying that he’d have the premiere of a new Sufjan Stevens song called “I Walked” and to catch it early (he’s since removed the tweet).
So I hung around impatiently, checking the various places I knew Sufjan might have new unheard music hanging out but I couldn’t find it. Then at around 4am Dodge made the post and as I was reading it I got to the song and it wouldn’t play. I tried saving it, no joy. Tried seeing if it was on his server somewhere else, but no joy. So I reluctantly went to bed, knowing that when I got up it’ll have blown up everywhere else and everyone but me would’ve listened to it by then.
Yeah that’s how it turned out. Most of the sites and blogs have all posted it, none of which I follow besides Will over at We All Want Someone To Shout For gave Dodge the credit for having it first, which is kinda poor form, guys. Regardless, the song itself is a fucking stunner. The only way to recognise that it’s a Sufjan song is thanks to his unique vocals, the rest of the song is taken up by a huge electronic beat that’d be more at home on a Nine Inch Nails record, and ethereal, far-off backing vocals that sound like they were sung by Mermaids under water. It’s taken from his just-announced (yesterday) new album “The Age Of Adz” set for release on October 12th.
