Dear Datarock, I’m pretty sure if you gave me a chance, I think we could be best friends. Love always, Leish. I’ve always had some weird obsession with Datarock, probably because their single “Computer Camp Love” takes a whole scene out of “Revenge of the Nerds”, and makes it into a catchy ass dance song. Let’s be real here… that’s true love. Or a friend crush, whatever. Either way, I’m stoked to hear that they’re releasing a new single. Seeing the email about “Catcher in the Rye” made my little Asian eyes light up with the bigness of a white person (wait, is that reverse racism?). Either way, expectations were met/exceeded when I got a listen of the track. The epitome of Datarock: fun, dancey, high energy, and just as amazing as those sparse little chest hairs shown in the picture above.
If ya don’t know, Datarock are a Norwegian duet… taking on the pseudonym for the Norwegian word for “computer” (hello, Asian love already). They formed in 2000, composed of Fredrik Soroea and Ketil Mosnes. Their song “True Stories” features lyrics composed solely of Talking Heads song titles (genius). They’ve got the amazing talent of joining amazing jumpy beats with seriously smart lyrics… one of those things where you’re screaming the lyrics along with the songs and BAM! you realize you’re singing something completely different.
These tracksuited doods give Sue Sylvester a run for her money (don’t know the pop culture reference… I’m embarrassed). ANYWAY. “Catcher in the Rye” is their new single, releasing March 21, uh hello ListenBeforeYouBuy.net. The single will also be released as a five track EP, that’ll have all sorts of goodies on it. They’re calling it “the most extravagant single in history”, and I put my stamp of approval on it. Give it a little hear-see and let me know what you think. ACTUALLY I DONT CARE BECAUSE I LOVE IT. I’m just kidding, I don’t mean to be rude but I just love this shit, OH. SO. MUCH.
