[Listen/Download] – Five Songs By Slow Animal

Although they’ve been around and being spoken about for a good few months now, it seems like only in the last couple of weeks or so that I’m starting to hear about New Jersey’s Alexander and Daniel, the guys behind Slow Animal.  They’ve been showing up on various different blogs and Twitter streams and it piqued my interest.  I did some digging (wasn’t difficult since I had a PR email sitting in my inbox with everything I needed, thanks Jessi!) and checked out their MySpace page.

Initially I only had a couple of their songs to go up here, and then I found their Bandcamp page with four more songs all for free, so of course I downloaded them all.  Some have described them as a male Best Coast, or similar to Beach Fossils, and I’d agree with both of those.  Best Coast have done it and Slow Animal are doing it too; creating a lo-fi, fuzz-pop summer beach sound without actually going the stereotypical route of having waves and cascading harmonies, a la The Beach Boys or Souxsie Sioux (not really).

They have a 7″ single out right now for a mere $4.99 (limited to 250) called “theFUNsun” and you can hear both songs from that below as well as three others.
