The deep synth beginnings only hints at the amount of sensuality emitted from this limited edition EP. It contains different approaches to the same goal with equal amounts of honesty. “Black Hills” conveys this as a folky synthpop piece with the pulsing keyboards awash with falsetto vocals that doesn’t abandon it’s relaxed California influence.
In “Orange Blossom”, the drum machine kick-start plays like a cheesy pick-up line– that is, until the honey-dripping bass combined with playfully flirty lyrics creates an image not unlike that of a love-drunk (or drunk in general), less self-conscious MGMT. And it works incredibly well.
What I like most about this release was the versatility it shows while having one thing in mind: sauntering or stumbling, this free EP wants to take you home.
