Joywave had one of our favorite EPs of 2012 with Koda Vista, but if we’re being honest that’s not even their best work. That honor would definitely have to go to their 77777 mixtape (which is still available to download for free). That mixtape, released in 2011 had the band performing their own takes on songs by artists such as Miike Snow, Beach House, or LCD Soundsystem. But they weren’t really covers, mashups or remixes, but rather a combination of the three. It was really a great way to launch the band’s career.
Now, the band are back with two new songs, and the announcement that their next project, the 88888 mixtape, will be available in April. “All I Want” and “London,” which premiered on Pigeons & Planes and Indie Shuffle respectively, are said songs, and show the band playing in their similar electronic pop/rock style. The surprise this time is that there are no covers to be found, which probably means that it’ll be an album’s worth of original material, which we’re obviously excited for.
Stay tuned for more, and be sure to also check the Big Data song we posted last week, which features Daniel of Joywave, and our review of their hometown show in Rochester.
