When I first heard the new jams from Matthew Dear’s upcoming fourth album “Black City”, they instantly sounded like Prince had gone dark and ominous Electro-Techno-Pop on us.

That’s why I was happy, because it’s better than anything Prince has done in the last 15 years or so. “Black City” is 10 songs  filled to the brim with monochromatic synths, funky bass lines, melancholy vocals and electro drum beats.

Below you can hear two cuts from “Black City” and if you head on over to Ghostly International you can hear the whole thing before its release on August 17th.
