If you’re expecting another “Youth Novels” then you’re not going to get it.
Although youth still plays a part on “Wounded Rhymes”, lil’ miss Lykke Li has gone and growed up, all smart and wise-like. At the time of writing I’ve listened to the album a fair few times and so far I’m just not that into it, but don’t get me wrong there are some excellent songs, like the singles we’ve heard; “Get Some”, “I Follow Rivers”, and the non-single but still good “Love Out Of Lust”.
However, for me, the standout track is “Sadness Is a Blessing”. It’s a bit of “Youth Novels” meets “Possibility”, and when she cries the word “Go” in the pre-chorus verse it gets me every time, as if she’s actually crying and pleading as she sings it.
Anyway, below you can hear the entire thing for free, then you can go ahead and just buy if you dig, yeah?
