A new direction this is not.
It’s the same direction Black Lips have been going in for the last few years or so, not that it’s a bad thing, but you might think it’s false advertising if you take them at their word. If you’ve been following the band for the last few years then you’ll know the spitting, hoarse, gravel-trodden sound they’ve honed so well, but this time around for their new album “Arabia Mountain” they’ve enlisted British producer, artist, DJ, dude-with-cool-hair-but-apparently-a-bit-of-a-twat, Mark Ronson.
The result is a sound that’s still hectic and hungover, but also crisper and richer in quality, and not something that’s been over-produced like the Tennis album was. Good things abound for Black Lips this year, at least as long as the new album keeps pace with the singles that’ve preceded it.
