New Jersey band Brick + Mortar have, to my knowledge, barely released anything in the last few months.  That may not be the case as I only did a cursory search, however even if they’d only released “Heatstroke” it’d still make up for a 14 year absence.

We get sent an assload (that’s an actual scientific measurement of volume, by the way) of music, either as emails to our inbox, posts on our Facebook page, or updates sent to our Twitter account, but when people like The NJ Underground send us a recommendation I tend to sit up and take notice.  Thankfully they rarely disappoint, as Brick + Mortar‘s new track “Heatstroke” is swiftly snaking its way up my best songs of the year list.

The most distinctive thing you’ll notice is the vocals, twitching with a less-gravelly Joe Strummer and spitting with the same bite as Nic Snyder from 1, 2, 3 with a slight English accent, the track propels forward at an illegal pace and unfortunately doesn’t last forever. I’m on my 6th listen just as I write this, and that doesn’t count the other 298 times before this.
