Thinking it was one giant song that lasted for a week or so, I literally just listened to this new Memory Tapes song four times in a row before even realising.
You know a Memory Tapes song from one to the next because they all seem to have that smooth, ethereal kick with Postal Service-type synths and cream soda vocals. Just because an artist tends to stick with one sound is by no means a bad thing; just look at James Blake’s debut…..it’s immense and cohesive to the point of it being almost musical glue, and Memory Tapes does the same thing.
High quality funky synth-spokes with a vocal style akin to Alex Taylor from Hot Chip and Ben Gibbard from Death Cab/Postal Service exchanging musical mouth-fluids, he’s released a couple of late night jams from his upcoming second LP “Player Piano” (out July 5th) that sounds like it might’ve been produced by Toro Y Moi‘s new album itself. Have a listen to “Wait In The Dark” below and check back for more music they’re sure to release as we get closer to the launch date.
