This came outta nowhere. Who even knew The Vines were still alive, never mind still making music?
When they blew up back in early 2000′s during part of the “The” revolution of bands whose name all seemed to start with The; The Vines, The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes, The Libertines, The N*SYNCs, their music was more often than not overshadowed by singer Craig Nicholls’ increasingly erratic behaviour, later turning out be due to his having Asperger Syndrome. He also had a fairly strong “addiction” to fast food and weed which I would imagine helped to calm down his crazies from time to time, but when he ended up going batshit at a crowd and kicking a photographer, their guitarist left and their future was in doubt.
To be honest I kinda heard their name thrown around a little bit between then and now but I’d figured they called it quits after their 2008 album “Melodia”, but for the first time in my life I was wrong! ”Gimme Love” is the first single from their fifth album “Future Primitive” and due to his distinctive vocals and frantic pace it sounds like fairly standard Vines to me. Give it a listen below and watch a video of them doing a back to back performance with The Hives at the VMAs in 2002. Classic.
