[Listen/Download] – New Track By Contrakids – “I Needed You”

We first featured Contrakids back in April, and in the couple of months since I’ve been watching closely for any new material. I needn’t have bothered, as they took the trouble to sling us a copy of new track “I Needed You” directly.

I’m delighted to say it’s cut from the same lustrous cloth as the first couple, with one slight difference: everything’s suddenly upbeat. Well, there’s still a bittersweet touch to the lyrics, but other than that… Most importantly, though, they retain their ability to use Auto-Tune to enhance things, rather than squishing every last inch of emotion out of them. Contrakids, I salute you on that one.

After just a few tracks, the threesome have established a distinctive and very, very likeable sound. I hadn’t really taken in the Röyksopp touch to the vocals before, but the swoops on “I Needed You” flicked a “Poor Leno”-shaped switch in my head.

Consider my synthpop cravings satiated for now, but don’t expect that to last long. Hint hint.
