[Listen/Download] – Present Box From Canada #5

Happy New Year! You’re all probably too busy recovering from new years to be reading this post but welcome to another edition of PRESENT BOX FROM CANADA brought to you by me, teepoo from Ride the Tempo. Each month, I’m here to bring you 10 Canadian tracks you probably would not have heard of otherwise! Are you a Canadian indie band? Submit your stuffs to tiana.feng@ridethetempo.com to be considered for next month or to be featured on Ride the Tempo.

Pete Samples
Pete actually just recently stopped the project called “Pete Samples” to continue a new music project. But before he did this he left us with an album called Bekonscot which is available for free download on his official website.  He’s a master multi-instrumentalists and there is something about his music that screams adorable.

Pete Samples – “Ghost Town Winds”
Pete Samples – “Winona”
Pete Samples – “Carnival Talk”

Kai
Kai I discovered through the Akida Music when they sent me the track for my Music from Commercials weekly feature. Her indie-pop esque has captured nationwide attention when her song was featured in the recent First Choice Haircutters campaign.

Ka i- “I Choose Me”

Small Sins
If you’ve ever seen Small Sins live they are a somewhat awkward group. That doesn’t mean their songs don’t blow your mind. Most recently is “Deja Vu” which features K-OS , a funky pop track, one you swore you would have heard more in the mainstream realm. Maybe you did, but you didn’t know it was by Small Sins. Their latest release “Pot Calls Black” is just as spunky, but has a tamer side too.  MYSPACE

Small Sins – “Déjà Vu” (feat. K-OS)
Small Sins – “Where There’s Gold”

Olenka and the Autumn Lovers
If you’re the kind of person that digs the sort of Feist and Imogen Heap sound than you’ll probably like Olenka and the Autumn Lovers.  MYSPACE

Olenka and the Autumn Lovers – “Odessa

The Most Serene Republic
This band is full of brassiness, trumpets, horns and a sound that reminds you of a mix of Young Galaxy and Broken Social Scene.  MYSPACE

The Most Serene Republic – “Pink Noise

Library Voices
Although you’re probably hung over and the last thing you want to think about is alcohol, here’s a song called “Drinking Games” by 8 pack group Library Voices. What an interesting name for a band of 8, I’m sure they’d get kicked out of the library.  MYSPACE

Library Voices – “Drinking Games

Holy Fuck
What a great band name, but with a name like that you gotta live up to certain expectations and I think this group does. They specialize in electronic music but what makes them special is NONE of the sounds you hear are generated on any sort of laptop. They’ll use keyboards and synths, drums, bass, random objects, whatever they can to create the sound or effect they want.  MYSPACE

Holy Fuck – “Royal Gregory
