[Listen/Download] – PS I Love You – “Leftovers” (Featuring Diamond Rings)

Back in 2009, PS I Love You teamed up with Diamond Rings on a split 7″ that yielded the irresistibly catchy “All Yr Songs” from Diamond Rings. That track introduced John O’Regan a/k/a Diamond Rings’ infectious baritone to the masses, spawning critical love and hatred in equal measures. Somewhat forgotten in that critical tsunami was the flip-side of that 7″, “Facelove” by PS I Love You. Well, O’Regan has returned to help his former wax partners by lending his vocals to “Leftovers,” which PS I Love You will release as a single on February 22nd.

Earlier this week we championed the collaboration between Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing as a wild success given that the bands played so well off each other’s strengths. “Leftovers” achieves a certain modicum of that success but falls short of receiving full accolades for one reason: O’Regan’s vocals are too dominant. PS I Love You provides efficient backing instrumentation, but “Leftovers” ultimately sounds exactly like the title suggests – O’Regan’s leftovers. Do not read into that statement, the track is still highly enjoyable; it just leaves me wondering who exactly PS I Love You is.
