[Listen/Download] – Radiohead – “Codex” (Mojib Remix)

Oh man, Mojib. MOJIB!!! I know I post a lot of crazy ass remixes that blow your face off, but there is also an art to remixing a song that really captures what the original artist was creating without overshadowing it. Pick a song, put a blasting bassline on it, and speed that shit up until when you hear the original song you’re bored with it. Mojib is an artist in that he creates an additional layer on top of the original with a style that compliments and seasons. Mojib would be the truffle oil sprinkled on top of that macaroni and cheese that just feels oh so right.

If you don’t know, now you know- Mojib, is Staffan Ulmert, hails from Gotenburg, Sweden. He’s currently working on his second solo album, after his first “Whimsical Lifestyle” in 2007. He experienced a little artistic hardship with trying to release some of the back catalog of UNKLE, but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to crank em out. He had previously remixed “Videotape” by Radiohead and continued to do a bunch more after each release. One of my personal favorites is his remix of “Staralfur” by Sigur Ros… it’s BEAUTIFUL. Again, the song is still very much the shining star but his distinguishing flourishes of stringed instruments, drums, and voiceovers add another element that seems just so right. When I saw this track in the submissions box, I immediately jumped on it.

Today he brings you a remix of “Codex”, right after the very release of Radiohead’s “The King of Limbs”. Mojib put a little makeup on the track, with some beautiful beats and breaks plus some additional vocals. I can’t say it enough, it’s just such an appropriate way to remix the beauty of Radiohead. He seems to have a connection with Radiohead, in that he remixed and released “Videotape” very close to when “In Rainbows” was released. I’m really excited for his second full length, I think we have a lot to expect out of Staffan.
