[Listen/Download] – Strider Hero – “Strider Hero EP”

I’m starting to get backlogged with music submissions now, and whilst I still listen to everything that gets sent to me, I’m delayed in actually getting to post the stuff I like, which is currently about 70% good, 30% alright, and 12% terrible.

Obviously Toronto, Canada’s Strider Hero made it into that highly prestigious 70%.  You’ve probably heard me harp on about how much I love free music, who doesn’t.  But when it’s entirely free EPs or albums, it just sets my heart and ears all a flutter.  I’ll admit I was surprised by Strider Hero.  At first, looking at their email and their MySpace page it seemed as though maybe they had put so much time and effort into the aesthetics of their look or even brand if you like, to compensate for having bland music.

Not the case. Not only is their aesthetic really well done and thought out, but their music is passionate, catchy and welcoming.  As I said they’re giving away their EP for free, but on their MySpace page they’ve made seven nice-sized alternate covers based on a super hero (fits in with the hero part of their name).  On the music side, the melodies and harmonies are light and breezy and the vocals are like a cross between The Morning Benders and The Smiths.

Give the entire EP a listen below and head over to their MySpace page which has all of the lyrics for each of the songs, the alternate cover art, and the link to download the whole shabang.
