[Listen/Download] – The Shimmies – [Home-School Rock/Alternative]

It’s pretty sweet when a band you really like starts recommending new music to you.  That’s what Craig from The Delta Mirror did with The Shimmies.

Not only did he recommend them but he even sent me a couple of their songs too.  The four-piece are from a land far far away in Dagobah System, California, their sound reminiscent of Grizzly Bear meets Conor Oberst meets a Jeff Buckley-fronted Band Of Horses.  High-arching guitar build-ups, resonating vocals and drum skins hit like they’re going out of fashion make their upcoming album “To All Beloved Enemies” sound like a truly genuine and emotional take on well-written rock music.

Made up of three brothers (Jimmy Galloway, Stephen Galloway, Sean Galloway) and a buddy (Jack Gingerich), they describe their music as “home-school rock”, with big emphasis on home and rock.  Jimmy and Sean switch it up on vocal duties, whilst Sean and Stephen actually sang on The Delta Mirror’s song “He Was Worse Than The Needle He Gave You”.  Self-released “To All Beloved Enemies” is out July 27th and you can get their previous album “The Frogtown LP” via CD Baby.

They’re on tour at the moment with The Delta Mirror (among others), but there’s no word yet if they plan on touring with The Shakes.  That’d be a billboard poster worth stealing (see what I did there? The Shimmies and The Shakes?  On tour together? No?……ahem).
