Absolutely enamored with this song, guys. “Lighthouse” is the new one from NewVillager. I have been out of the loop, apparently, as I heard this song and immediately started searching for more. The internet is afire in praise for NewVillager. This is a delightful duo comprised of Ben Bromley and Ross Simonini (the two hunks above); based out of Brooklyn via San Francisco.
You can hear the influences they draw from the two cities they back and forth from in their music; they make playfully fun and involved music. I know that doesn’t sound cool, but in a way it’s whimsically complex (am I even making sense?)
The instrument play between different percussion give you a little bit of that Arcade Fire feel, back when they were still pure (I kid, I kid.. kind of). The deep tones and the string picking, it’s all about a beautiful balance in spectrum of sound. NewVillager is the whole kit and kaboodle; creativity oozing out of all outlets, they refer to them selves as an artist collective. They make music, drawings, animations, performances, costumes, lectures and write. They’re creating an aural aesthetic with a whole new philosophy and approach to music; you experience their craft and take it in.
NewVillager is on IAMSOUND Records; they have been in talks of releasing a full length- I will be in line for it. I also threw in the video for Lighthouse because it’s so very NewVillager. It was directed by Ben Dickinson, who has worked with LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, and the Juan Maclean. The video is just as visually stimulating as the music is; I love it.
